Dear Neighbour,

I am thrilled to be standing as your Green Party candidate in the Tavistock North by-election on 2nd May. Will you support me? Here’s why it would be good if you could.

I’ve the skills to do the job.

After graduating in general nursing (2007), I worked in the community as a Mental Health Nurse. This was all in Australia and ended up with me being involved in disaster recovery post climate events such as cyclones. Prior to this I spent approximately 20 years working in IT in the financial sector. These professional experiences have meant that I have developed an understanding of what is required to support people in demanding situations whilst working in teams in an effective organised manner.  These are all skills we need on the Council.

Here in Tavistock, In the past, I have volunteered with the TASS befriending scheme, been involved with the Tavi Tidy community litter pick, and supported local food banks/hubs.  During Covid I was part of the Tavistock Locals Help Team. I currently volunteer in a zero-waste outlet staffed solely by volunteers. All the above has contributed to my understanding of the issues people face day-to-day in our community.

Greens can win here

At the last election, the Greens were just 18 votes away from winning in Tavistock North. It is that close. Only a few people switching to Green will mean I get elected. Your vote really can make a difference.

I will be part of a dedicated team

There are already four Green Councillors in West Devon who are doing great things to make your area a better place to live, work and play. With an extra Green Councillor, we can do even more. The Greens in West Devon have a long history of working cooperatively and positively with other parties, so as your local Councillor, I will always put your needs above party politics. If you want a local candidate who can stand up for Tavistock and work hard for you, please vote for me on Thursday May 2nd

Best wishes

P.S. We were only 18 votes away from winning last time, so every Green vote counts!

Your West Devon Green team

Your Green Team in West Devon has already:

  • Campaigned to save a local shop and post office
  • Worked to get much-needed social housing built to fill local needs.
  • Strengthened Council plans on climate change and biodiversity
  • Stopped chemical pesticide use on Council land
  • Implemented a plan for the Council to become net zero by 2030
  • Used feedback from residents to improve local leisure facilities
  • Started an active travel committee to look at how to better connect rural communities.

They have also supported many residents on a wide range of issues from damp & unsafe rental properties to financial hardship and accessibility issues.

All this and more with just four Councillors. Elect Sara to join them and your local Greens can achieve even more for you.

A bit more about Sara

Sara has lived on and off in Tavistock for approximately 30 years. She enjoys keeping fit with various activities that include gardening and walking. She also enjoys singing in choirs and has become involved with the Edge Players by being prompter for their recent production.

Three good reasons to vote for Sara Wood

  • The skills for the job. Sara’s experience as a mental health nurse and working in business make her an ideal Councillor. Her voluntary experience in Tavistock means she knows our community inside out.
  • She can win. At the last election, the Greens were just 18 votes away. With your support, Sara can win this time.
  • An even stronger Green team. Sara will join four other Green Councillors already making a big difference for West Devon. Greens work with other parties, so Sara can put you before party politics.
