Another opportunity for more Green Councillors

Two sad events have prompted new by-elections at Burrator (June 15th) and Tavistock North (June 20th). Three candidates in total are standing for the Green Party and we hope to increase our presence and influence on West Devon Council.

The Burrator election was delayed due to the sudden death of previous Green candidate Neil Jameson. Our thoughts are, of course, with Neil’s family.

In Tavistock North our elected councillor, Terry Wheeler, lost his home of 20 twenty years in a ‘no fault eviction’. This cruel Conservative policy meant that Terry has had to move from the area and could no longer represent you.

The Green Party has chosen new candidates to represent us in the upcoming by-elections.

Burrator Ward - two candidates.

David Miller

David Miller has lived locally for most of his life. He was brought up in Bere Alston where his family has lived for many generations. A father of three and a mature student of Biological Sciences at Plymouth University, David now lives in Buckland Monachorum.

Sam NorthSam North lives with his family in the same Dartmoor valley where he was brought up. He was a member of his village hall committee for 15 years and is now a Professor of English at Exeter University.

To get the best team for Burrator ward, use both your votes for the Green Party on 15 June.

Tavistock North Ward - one candidate

Annabel MartinAnnabel Martin has lived with her family in Tavistock for fifteen years. She works for an environmental charity focussing on improving the health of West Country rivers. She wants to put the environment foremost in all aspects of local policy, from sustainable food production through to better insulated homes and greener transport planning.

Your vote on 20th June will ensure the election of someone who cares deeply about the local community.

Now is the time for Greens to have an impact.

Green Party gains on 4th May have shifted the Conservative’s stranglehold on West Devon Council for the first time in over twenty years.

Greens are now the second largest political party after winning more than double the number of seats they did in 2019. They have begun making changes, putting local people before big business and corporate profits

Green Councillors have already shown how hard they work for local people. Your Green Councillors have helped people with damp housing, council tax, waste inquiries, flooding and crime. They’ve supported local businesses with planning advice and information, and worked with other bodies like the Police Community Liaison group to help keep you safe.

Use your vote to keep the momentum going.
